Erika Rombaldoni is an Italian stage director and choreographer working across opera, live performance, television and high-profile cultural events. Her work is characterised by a refined and culturally informed approach to movement, in which gesture becomes an integral part of the dramaturgy and visual composition of the stage.

 

In 2025 she choreographed the stadium tour of Italian singer Cesare Cremonini, as well as Matrimonio al Convento at the MusikTheater an der Wien and the world premiere of Il Nome della Rosa at Teatro alla Scala, Milan, in co-production with the Opéra de Paris (music by Francesco Filidei, directed by Damiano Michieletto). The same year she created the choreography for Bonsoir Monte-Carlo, a stage tribute to Josephine Baker commissioned by the Opéra de Monte-Carlo for Monaco’s National Day celebrations (directed by Davide Livermore, conducted by Yvan Cassar). She was also invited by Geppi Cucciari to appear on the Rai3 television programme Splendida Cornice, and created the choreography for the Italian delegation at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2025.

 

Earlier in her career she worked as a performer with Cirque du Soleil, appeared in musical productions by Riccardo Cocciante (choreography by Micha Van Hoecke), and took part in television and advertising productions for MTV, Mediaset and Alain Afflelou with choreography by Benjamin Millepied. She also appeared in the HBO television series ROME.

 

OPERA

 

Since 2004 she has collaborated regularly with director Robert Carsen, working on productions for major international theatres and festivals including Teatro alla Scala, the Royal Opera House in London, the Opéra National de Paris, the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, Teatro Real in Madrid, La Monnaie in Brussels, the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, Gran Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Teatro Regio di Torino, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Palau de les Arts in Valencia. In opera she has also worked with directors such as Damiano Michieletto, Davide Livermore, Pierluigi Pizzi, David McVicar, Luc Bondy, Daniele Abbado, Antonio Latella, Valentina Carrasco, Giorgio Barberio Corsetti, Stefano Poda, Rolando Villazón and others, collaborating with institutions including the Rossini Opera Festival, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Arena di Verona, Macerata Opera Festival, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Opéra National de Lorraine, Teatro Comunale di Bologna and the Donizetti Festival in Bergamo.

Her choreography includes Carmen for the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma at the Baths of Caracalla (directed by Valentina Carrasco), La Traviata at Teatro La Fenice in Venice and she revived Salome at Teatro alla Scala (directed by Damiano Michieletto).

 

Directing & Cinema

 

The Wratislavia Cantans Festival commissioned her staging and choreography for Rappresentatione di Anima et di Corpo with Il Giardino Armonico conducted by Giovanni Antonini, broadcast by Mezzo TV.

The Macerata Opera Festival produced her performance Amami, premiered at the Sferisterio in 2021.

She was also invited by the MAXXI Museum in Rome with the performance Di Uomini e Animali featuring Neri Marcorè.

She collaborated with Daniel Ezralow on the film The Opera! (Rai Cinema / Showlab), premiered at the Rome Film Festival.

Her short film Arianna received an award at the Fano International Film Festival. She has been invited to teach masterclasses at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ancona.

 

Rombaldoni studied classical, modern and contemporary dance at the Centre International de Danse Rosella Hightower in Cannes and also specialised in Baroque dance, collaborating with institutions such as the Conservatory of Zurich, Bern, Dresden, Trossingen, the Bach Biennale in Weimar, the International Bach Academy Stuttgart, Festival della Valle d'Itria and the Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg.

She graduated with honours in Foreign Languages and Literature from the University of Urbino.

 

In 2022 the newspaper Il Resto del Carlino named her among the 20 Citizens of the Year.


Among her upcoming engagements is Le Siège de Corinthe, opening the 2026 Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro.
